Peer Awards Barcelona 2008Coming to Barcelona for the Mobile World Congress? Don’t miss the MobileMonday Peer Awards Barcelona 2008! Sticking with MobileMonday’s recipe for success, the event will cook up a bunch of fresh innovations mixed with honest feedback and a dash of fun. Served with plenty of juicy networking at the NEW Espacio Movistar in Barcelona on Monday February 11 starting at 2:30PM.

The MobileMonday Peer Awards are recognised by the industry as one of THE interesting events in the mobile industry. Last year’s Barcelona Peer Awards event attracted 23 competitors, the MoMo community award went to Mobile Complete, the audience award to Plazes, and the expert jury award to Realeyes 3D. Check the Peer Awards 2007 Flickr Group pictures and winners’ announcement here.

Mr. Pekka Ala-Pietila, former president at Nokia Corporation and currently chief executive officer of Blyk Corporation, a virtual mobile operator in the UK, will be the keynote speaker.

The event concept is pretty similar as last year: every MobileMonday chapter is invited to nominate one startup to the Peer Awards Barcelona 2008. This year, we’ll divide the start-up finalist presentations in two categories: early-stage start-ups (founded in 2007, early-stage financing) and emerging start-ups (founded in 2005 and after, inbetween Series A & B funding). The organizing committee and jury selects the finalists to present at the awards event. Entrance into the running is free! Check the Peer Awards website for details.

Espacio Movistar

There will be three awards in each category: jury, audience, and community (MoMo chapters). This year’s winners at the MobileMonday Peer Awards Barcelona will also be invited to participate in the Innovation Pad activities at the MobileMonday Global Summit in conjunction with the World Congress on IT in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, May 18-22, 2008.

Master of Ceremony is once again Mrs. Caroline Lewko, from the Wireless Industry Partnership (WIP).

After a long summer break, the MobileMonday Global Summit and the Mercè festivities, MobileMonday Barcelona is back for a new and exciting season of 1st Monday of the month regulars on mobile innovation. Starting next Monday, October 1st on “Next Generation Mobile Marketing” (2D-Barcodes / Image Recognition).

For our first event of the new 2007-2008 season, we brought together an explosive cocktail of some of the hottest start-ups in Europe on the Next Generation Mobile Marketing topic, including Dennis Hettema from Shotcode (Sweden), Roger Fisher from Kaywa (Switzerland) and our own Ignacio Mondine from Daem Interactive (Spain). The topic will be introduced and moderated by Raimo van der Klein coming over from Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Raimo will share with us his view on the way information (content) is provisioned to the mobile phone and the change from Push Marketing to Pull Marketing (Marketing as a service). A perfect start for a new season it looks to us. If you feel the same, please subscribe and confirm your event participation, seats are limited as always, don’t wait last minute to confirm!

Speakers:

Raimo van der Klein, Mobminds (Netherlands)
After working in Sales & Marketing for more than 6 years at Nokia(networks and mobile phones) and working the last year as Principal Innovation Manager at the leading Dutch (mobile) operator KPN, Raimo(1973) started June 2007 his own consultancy agency in the field of Strategic Innovation and Online Media(Internet & Mobile). His newly started agency Mobminds (www.mobminds.com) offers “consumer oriented” companies services in the field of Consulting, Workshops and Concept Development. Next to this Raimo is founder of Mobile Monday Ámsterdam (www.mobilemonday.nl) and writes for the leading marketingblog in The Netherlands called Marketingfacts (www.marketingfacts.nl).

Ignacio Mondine, Daem Interactive (Spain)
Ignacio Mondine studied mechanical engineering specializing in CAD design and robotics. After working for Procter&Gamble R+D in Germany he met Miguel Sola Camps at an Interaction Design Masters degree in Barcelona. Together they start DAEM Interactive in 2002.

Daem Interactive develops image recognition technologies for mobile-marketing and dynamic-advertising. Extensive know-how gained over years of research and development is focused on one concept: one-click to mobile web. Pioneering in the launch of advertisement and logo recognition campaigns, DAEM has helped mayor brands like Vodafone, Grupo Damm and BBVA to be the focus of many camera phones.

Dennis Hettema, Founder and Creative Director, Shotcode (Sweden)
Dennis is the founder and Creative Director of OP3, the company behind ShotCode, and has been active on the internet since 1995. In ‘99 he launched a Dutch high-tech incubator that developed tagging based AI products. In ‘01 he founded Holland’s largest entrepreneurial community which now boasts over 17.000 members. In his spare time Dennis helps entrepreneurs realize their dreams, he’s a hard core endurance athlete and plays with as many gadgets as he can get his hands on.

ShotCode is the market leader within the mobile barcode scanning space in Europe, Africa and the Americas. A highly innovative and rapidly emerging market that bridges the gap between offline products and online interaction. ShotCode’s customers include: Heineken, Xbox, Jameson Whiskey, Monsterboard, Sony Ericsson, Saatchi & Saatchi, Nokia, Coca Cola and many others. Its technology is supported on over 240 handsets and over 50 million of its codes have been printed.

Roger Fischer, Founder and CEO, Kaywa (Switzerland)
Roger is the founder and CEO of Kaywa. After his studies in cinema and audiovisual media in Paris, he worked as film critic, curator and director. With the advent of XML, he seriously started working in the web space. In 2000 he founded his first company Bitflux and in 2003 he started Kaywa with it’s focus on moblogging, weblogging and mobile sites. Currently Kaywa is the major swiss (mobile) blog provider and it’s customers include all major print and television media companies. From the start in 2003, services for the mobile phone were targeted, but the web was never disregarded.

Highly japanophile, Kaywa added in 2006 the Kaywa Reader, QR Codes and advanced SMS services to it’s portfolio. The success of QR Codes and the Kaywa Reader came even as surprise to Kaywa itself. Kaywa is working now on a mobile and web ecosystem called KIS - Kaywa-Ichiba-Shin (Conversation-Market-Trust) which is heavily based on QR Codes. Some parts of the iceberg can be glimpsed already.

Telefónica Móviles, the mobile arm of Telefónica Group, opened its Espacio Movistar in Barcelona in September 2006. This innovative, multidisciplinary, next-generation venue has been conceived to bring people closer to the latest creative trends in technology, music, art, cinema and entertainment - especially the young.

Espacio Movistar

This space is a step further to consolidate Movistar as a reference brand associated to innovation, creativity, entertainment, communication and fun.

The Global Peer Awards 2007 are hosted at Espacio Movistar thanks to Telefónica Móviles.

Here’s some practical info on how to get to the event:

Espacio Movistar is a large white tent located left of the “blue triangle” building at the Forum. Use this new Barcelona landmark as reference when trying to reach the event.

By taxi:
From anywhere in the city ask for the “Espacio Movistar en el Forum”. That should get you there in 10-15 minutes.
From the 3GSM World Congress by Public Transport:

If you come from the show the fastest way is to catch the metro (25 minutes from Pl. Espanya). Take the red line (L1) towards Fondo. Then you have two choices:

Get off at “Urquinaona” and –without exiting- change to the yellow line (L4) towards “La Pau”. Then get out at “El Maresme – Fòrum”. Coming out of the metro, look for the “blue triangle” building.

Exit at “Glòries” and look for a Tram stop, the railtracks will help you find one ;-) . Take T4 direction “Estacio de Sant Adrià” and get off at “Forum”. This ride down the “Diagonal” gives you a great tour of the 22@ district of Barcelona and you may find it a nice break from the crowded metro.
