The next MobileMonday Barcelona event on March 10 covers Mobile Travel Services. On the local side we invited Montse Comaposada from the Barcelona City Council to demo the services included in barcelona.mobi (launched at the World Mobile Congress) and Diego Bartolomé, CEO of Ta With You, a multilingual mobile translation service. From abroad we invited Jefferson Wright Chandler to present Shozu’s related travel services and Andrea Trasatti, co-Founder of the WURFL project - the de-facto standard for device databases, and currently Director of Device Intiatives at dotMobi Andrea will explain the city.mobi project and other interesting stuff they’re currently working on.
Speakers:
Montse Comaposada, Technical Director Internet of Barcelona City Council.
Now Barcelona is always closer using your mobile. If you want to know what’s on at the theatre, where your favourite artist is playing, where the city centre vegetarian restaurants are or what children’s activities are on at the weekend, all you need is typing http://barcelona.mobi in your phone browser or send barcelona.mobi to 7010 (in Spain). Wherever you are, what ever the time, you will get your answer on your mobile.
Montse Comaposada, Computer Science Engineer at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, started running European projects at the Barcelona City Council in 1995. This provided her experience in developing Internet information services for the public sector including the first mobile site for the Barcelona City Council. Nowadays she coordinates, among others, projects related with accessibility and multiplatform portability, such as barcelona.mobi.
Diego Bartolomé, PhD and CEO of Ta With You.
Ta with you is your personal machine translator: we break linguistic barriers among people no matter where they are, thanks to our text, image and speech machine translation solutions for mobile devices. The company’s main markets are tourists, immigrants, and international companies, which are addressed through mobile operators and device manufacturers. You can visit their portal, by sending an SMS with the text TAU TRAD to the Spanish number 7210.
Since June 2006, Diego is the CEO and co-founder (together with Montse Fornés) of Ta with you. He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering and a MSc in Management and Business Administration, and has had several positions in R&D, business development, and general management in several national and international companies.
Jefferson Wright Chandler (USA), European Business Development Director at Shozu Ltd.
Jefferson will talk about the growing popularity of activity specific sites and ShoZu’s association with travel related sites like pikeo.com, geo-tagging services and how to build a revenue model on travel related communities.
Jefferson has 15 years experience at international business development at director level at media, software and consultancy firms, having worked for Sony Pictures, Analysis Consulting as well as his own start-up firm in 2001 and 2002. A US citizen and a graduate of Stanford University, Jefferson currently lives in Madrid with his wife and 3 children.
Shozu is the leading provider of mobile social media services that connect mobile consumers with their online social networks, personal blogs, photo storage sites and other Web 2.0 properties from the handset.
Andrea Trasatti (Italy), Director of Device Intiatives at dotMobi
Andreas will talk about the city.mobi programme, how travelling and location is important for mobile users. He is currently in charge at dotMobi of leading the design and development of the new open repository of mobile device profiles called DeviceAtlas that launched in Feb 2008.
Prior to this Andrea has been a system administrator and a software developer for more than 10 years and a consultant for more than 5 years. In Italy Andrea started developing the first WAP sites in late 1999 when the first WAP phone was about to be released. Since then he has been developing some of the most innovative services for mobile devices.
From 2002 until very recently, Andrea has been maintainer and co-owner of the WURFL project, the de-facto standard for device databases. Andrea is also an active member of the W3C and author of one of the documents that will be published by the Device Descriptions Working Group during its second charter.
